HISTORY BEHIND TREE HOUSE-
tree houses were invented long before the age of patents, and history has not recorded the first one ver to be built. but we do know that tree houses were used permanent dwellings in jungles for a couple of thousands years. tree houses were practical for keeping people safe at night from preying jaguars or tigers, protecting food from scavengers, keeping a lookout for invaders, etc.

britain is home to one of the oldest treehouses still in eitence. at pithford hall, situated on private land near action burnell in shropshire, which was constructed during the 16th century. queen victoria visited the tree house in 1832 when she was a young princess.
the picture you see of tree is of  "santa monica, california" treehouse.

  2. Wow anonymous why don't you try being a bit more kind instead of so judgemental hiding behind an anonymous post and no photo to attack someone for their post. That's VERY RUDE.....

  3. this is beautiful! It brought back memories of the wilderness cabin my brother Keenan (dec.) and I built off of the Indian Arm north of Deep Cove, British Columbia. We couldn't bring our selves to harm even one of those majestic wonders of nature. Of course our cabin could not be compared to this structure. Thank you for sharing the photo. You made my day a little brighter.

  5. Thank you for story and beautiful treehouse picture. Is this treehouse in California?

  6. I'm a bit confused ~ the caption leads us to believe a history of this tree house, whether in England or California, will be provided. Queen Elizabeth visiting as a teenager is not exactly the history of the treehouse.
It is a lovely dwelling, the one pictured, and we could all use such a place as an escape. How about an update with a real history, like how the builder came to decide on the location, locate materials and labor, challenges faced, etc.

  7. Does the tree house that the Queen visited have a name so I can look it up? Now you have raised many questions in my head about tree houses because you really didn't say that much. I want to do research. Can you tell me where to find info on the one from the 16th century?

  18. I have read the post and oh my ... some altercation going on here, all I can say, its a great picture, spelling could have been ran through spell checker, yes I agree, as the world is reading it, but really, is it that important ??
However the title is misleading ... as it does not describe the history of tree houses ... which was my reason for clicking on the link, but hey, its not an issue, all good, love the web site, keep up the good work :)

    1. Thank you Sandra, for actually caring. A lot of the people on both sides have poor grammar, even books from famous writers have painfully poor grammar sometimes. And the author did give some history if you paid attention. He said that people used to make them to hide from predators, the post makes it evident that the history is not well known.
