WHAT IS CHIPKO MOVEMENT(ANDOLAN).-
chipko is hindi word. in hindi the word chipko means "to stick" or "to hug". in 70's uttrakhand(indian state) this movement was started. chipko movement was a non violent movement aimes at protection and conservation of trees and forests from being destroyed. the villagers used to hug the trees and protect them from cutters from cutting them. chipko movement was based on the gandhian  philosophy of peaceful resistance to achieve the goals. it was the strong uprising against the againsts those people, who were destroying the natural resources of the forests and disturbing the whole ecological balance.

LANDMARK OF THIS MOVEMENT-
the landmark event of chipko movement happend on march 26, 1974 in chamoli district, uttrakhand, india. where a group of peasant woman hugged trees to prevent them from filling down. theis actions inspired hundreds of such actions at the grassroots level throughout the region. by the 1980's the movement had spread throughout india and led formulation of people sensitive forest policies, which put a stop to open filling of trees in regions as far reaching as vindhyas and the western ghats of india. this movement was already famous worldwide and this is true lessons in our modern era.
